equirectangular camera render out of Blender Internal?

Is it possible to render an equirectangular perspective out of Blender Internal without stitching afterward, akin to what can be done with Cycles?

As I know, it is not possible. The shortest way is to bake a cube map and then rebake it to a sphere.
