Hi,

I have looked at the .blend file for the new line rendering feature using an empty in 16.01, but I am not sure how to use it in an animation.

Is it possible to set thickness, color and alpha for lines using the Blender GUI, or is programming also necessary?

I would like to use this to draw planet orbits. A tutorial or more detailed description would be appreciated.

Thanks.

@LukeVideo

Oops - missed that!

Thanks for pointing out the mistake. I think I found the solution though - after removing the camera parent empty, and deleting the "Move to" node, I relocated the bottom camera target cone's origin from the center of the cone to the top of the cone.

The camera now seems to see the top of the cone as "up" and the orientation works fine.

I have attached the modified blend file.

@LukeVideo

I set up what I think you are describing, but it does not seem to work. Sounds like a good strategy though

There is a simplified blend file attached to play with if you're at all inclined.

Hi Yuri,

Yes, I would like to be able to control which way is "Up" for the camera.

The goal is to have the light from the Sun shining from the same side of the camera in all
of the camera positions.

I have tried rotating the camera target empty on its axis, but it did not solve the problem.

Hi,

In this animation, there are multiple move camera targets that place the camera in a horizontal position. There are also two different targets ( earth top and earth bottom ) that place the camera in a vertical
position.

When the vertical targets are selected, the orientation of the camera is different from what I would like.
I have tried rotating the target empties, but it does not seem to change the camera positioning.

How can I control the orientation of the camera in these vertical positions?

Thanks

Hi Alexander,

What would I need to change to have shadows from one planet to another?

Thanks

Hi,

The "move camera" nodes for some reason work properly when first created,
but then later will suddenly all start ignoring the "duration" setting and
immediately jump to the camera target with no delay . The only way I have been able to
correct this is to delete and recreate all of the move camera nodes.

Thanks

Hi Alexander,

I can get close to the action that I'm looking for, but not quite correct. Can you please look at the
attached blend file and see where I need to make changes? Increasing the duration of the
"Move Camera" node lets the planet move too far from the center of the scene.

Thanks

Hi Alexander,

So far, when I use the "Move Camera" node and the target camera move style, the camera does move to the target position, but it does not continue to track the moving object. This is what I would like to achieve, is to have the camera continue to
follow the object after the camera moves into its new position.

Hi Alexander,

Oh, I see. I disconnected the normal control from the material node and now it works fine.

Thanks
